As in, take the drive out of the caddy? I’m not sure that that would work with this drive, as I don’t know the caddy structure.

Do you think you can replace the DVD drive with another one? Take the one its using and replace with aonther drive to use as an external drive?

You have to be careful about external drives. If they don't have external AC power, they probably have a 2 USB splitter that takes power from two USB ports and puts it into the drive, which lets it have enough power. http://www.asuseeepcstore.com/news

Leisure software that requires the physical presence of (an overpriced) CD or DVD is barking up an outmoded tree in the garden of the pathetic and the irrelevant. The more we are required to shunt discs around, the greater the likelihood one will get damaged. Let’s celebrate the talent of the cracker-community, ‘cos the crackers really are serving the best interests of the ordinary bottom feeder who is forced to pay top-dollar for bloatware.

My 3 year old has a battery powered external dvd reader I paied $80 for why dosen’t that one requier so much current that it has to have an AC port. Come to think of it, if AC power was really requiered wouldn’t laptops that come with these drive requier too much battery power?

I think laptopmakers are still having a hard time not collecting $600+ for their product.

Someone should make an external dvd drive that runs off of AA batteries I pick up at the airport so I can get a pc like this and play video games on the plane without having toinstall a crack to getthe game torun without a cd.

External drives typically require too much current for an ordinary USB port. That’s why the AC adapter is necessary.
