Chris Jackson is a man who deserves to be very popular indeed amongst those of you looking for an EEE in the UK but struggling to find a place which has them in stock. Chris has created a webpage, with some clever technology which check the stock levels at a fair number of online (UK-based) retailers, reporting their current prices (as accurate as possible – he’s tried to include postage, VAT etc, but, of course, it’s the price on the retailer’s site which actually applies- don’t be cross with him if it’s different!) and their stock availability.
“Asus EEE PC UK Stock checker“, as the site is cleverly named, checks the stock levels every five minutes, so, you should be reasonably sure of its accuracy.

I am surprised at the number of big name retailers that are charging more than the SRP of UKP220 for the 4GB version. Play.com only charge UKP219 and delivery is free!
Dabs were offering free delivery on orders over £100 this weekend. I was half tempted to cancel my order and place it again to take advantage of the free delivery, but didn’t want to end up at the back of the queue again.
This stock checker site is an excellent idea. If nothing else, it reassures me that I might as well just sit and wait for my order at the moment.
personally I’m surprised some of the big retailers are managing to sell any at all…there was a low-spec (I don’t think it had a web cam etc) eee pc on sale in Wolverhampton’s PC world looking particularly forlorn at the weekend. It merely had a hand written note stating “Eee PC web browser £199”, no additional details. Whilst the Eee PC has changed my mobile experience, I wouldn’t have given it a second glance in the shop. Shame on PC World.

Thanks for posting the link to my stock checker – it’s much appreciated. To be honest I expected the stock situation to have cleared up by now – but it still seems to be going strong – hardly anywhere have stock and the stock date on most sites is the back end of Feb! Good to know that people are making use of the eee stock site tho!
I’m desperately trying to get hold of an eee pc before i go traveling for 3 months, but can’t find one anywhere!! I placed an order with http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk because they said they had them in stock but turns out it’s not true. Does anyone know where i might be able to get a 4G version (not too bothered about the colour) before the end of next weeek??
I ordered one from Play.com on the 1st of February as it was listed as “In Stock” (and was listed as “In Stock” for a further 3 days after I placed my order), I was hoping to start using it to administer my website when on the move, but alas, almost 2 weeks later and still no sign of it. I rang play earlier today (at 17:15 11/2/08) and was told that they have no way of checking when the stock will be available.
